In addition to singing in our community, the choir’s major community outreach activity revolves around its annual Rose Senior Scholarship Award. The goal of this award is to encourage young singers from choirs in the Shoreline area to make music an ongoing part of their lives. We believe strongly that singing and producing wonderful music is a life-long endeavor and want to encourage students to continue this pursuit long after high school. Partial proceeds from our annual spring raffle provide support for this award.
During our recent Pops concert on June 4th and 5th, Choir of the Sound carried on this annual tradition of recognizing two graduating seniors from local area high schools. Each student applicant was nominated by their high school choir director. This year we were pleased to present two $1,000 scholarships, to Sara Alkhedairy of Meadowdale High School and Grey Larson of Edmonds-Woodway High School. Congratulations to Grey and Sara!
Past scholarship winners:
2010: John Vogel of Lynnwood High School and Lauren Sweeten of Shorewood High School
2009: Victoria Forslund from Lynnwood High School and Cameron Hollingshead from Mountlake Terrace High School.
2008: Chelsea Zappone from Meadowdale High School and Laura Hoover from Edmonds-Woodway High School.
2007 (inaugural year): Lauren Oglesby from Shorewood High School and Nora Reikosky from Shorecrest High School.
