Wonder of Winter
words by Wendy Parker,
music by Mark Hayes

It’s a wonder of winter
when ice crystals form,
high in the sky
on a cold winter’s morn.

Watch the magic of winter
as snow crystals fall,
drifting down from the clouds,
a delight for us all.

Midwinter’s solstice comes once in a year.
Take time to reflect, to find peace of mind.
While the earth keeps on spinning
and spinning around,
be ever gentle, be ever so kind.

It’s a mystery of winter,
the quiet, the calm,
a flake of pure beauty
I catch in my palm.

I’m in awe of its shimmer,
its intricate form.
By the warmth of my breath
in an instant it’s gone.

One snowflake in a trillion,
I wonder what it’s worth?
Like a snowdrift on the meadow,
I wonder
will peace ever blanket the earth?

A wonder this winter,
let peace blanket the earth.

The Cold Demands a Silence
words by Tara Wohlberg,
music by Stephen Chatman

The cold demands a silence
of the land, a looking inward
the undressed, trembling aspens
barren lines, memories
of lush shade and long days
replaced by privacy of winter.

the snow kissed winds blow
and blow, the cold a purity
a taste of the passing of time
these drawn-out days
of night on night,
gold crescent moon, night,

the fireweed flowers nap below
underneath a marquee of snow
the white snow on snow
in a halo of stars.

The cold demands a silence
dark on dark
the winter dances
white on white on white.

One Light (A Hanukkah Song)
words and arrangement by Evan Ramos,
music based on “Tua Bethlem Dref” traditional Welsh Carol

One light, shines through the night,
first of Hanukkah candlelight;
Sign of things that happened long ago.

Small light, flickering bright,
mark the passage of ev’ry night,
embers of remembrance in your glow.

Shine through the winter,
shine to remember,
shine for the wonder that happened there.
Shine through the winter,
shine to remember,
shine for the wonder that happened there.

Small light, flickering bright,
mark the passage of ev’ry night,
embers of remembrance in your glow.

One light, shines through the night,
first of Hanukkah candlelight;
Sign of things that happened long ago.
__________

Glow
words by Edward Esch,
music by Eric Whitacre,
piano accompaniment arranged by
Lisa Edwards

Softly falls the winter snow,
whispers to the sleeping world below:
“Wintertide awakes,”
morning breaks and sets the earth aglow.

In gentle tones of warmest white,
proclaim the glory of Aurora’s light.
Sparrow sings in a clear clean voice,
a sweet, silver carol for the season born.
Radiant wings as the skies rejoice,
Arise and illuminate the morn.

Softly falls the winter snow,
whispers to the sleeping world below:
“Glow, like the softly falling snow.”
Glow.

In The Bleak Midwinter
arranged by Rebecca Dale
Soloist: Alison Schreckengast

In the bleak midwinter,
frosty wind made moan,
Earth stood hard as iron,
water like a stone;
Snow had fallen, snow on snow,
snow on snow,
In the bleak midwinter, long ago.

Our God, Heaven cannot hold Him,
nor earth sustain;
Heaven and earth shall flee away
when He comes to reign.
In the bleak midwinter
a stable place sufficed
The Lord God Almighty, Jesus Christ.

Angels and archangels
may have gathered there,
Cherubim and seraphim
thronged the air;
But His mother only,
in her maiden bliss,
Worshipped the beloved with a kiss.

What can I give Him, poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb;
If I were a Wise Man, I would do my part;
Yet what I can I give Him: give my heart.
__________

This endris night
arranged by Sarah Quartel
Dance:
choreographed and performed by
Maria Plancich Kesovija
Handbells:
Robin Ethridge, Rebecca Gottschalk,
Charlotte Hotchkiss, Melissa Peterson

This endris night I saw a sight,
a star as bright as day,
And ever among, a maiden sung,
‘Lully, by by, lullay.’

This lovely lady sat and sang,
and to her child did say:
‘My son, my brother, father dear,
why liest thou thus in hay?
My sweetest bird, ’tis thus required,
though thou be king veray,
but nevertheless I will not cease
to sing “By by, lullay, lullay.”’

The child then spake whilst she did sing,
and to his mother did say,
‘Yea, I am known as Heaven-King
in crib though I be laid.
For angels bright down on me light;
thou knowest ’tis no nay.
And for that sight thou may delight
to sing, ‘By by, lullay, lullay.’“

‘Now sweet son, since it is so,
that all is at thy will,
I pray thee grant to me a boon,
if it be right and skill,
that child or man, who will or can,
be merry on my day,
to bliss them bring and I shall sing,
“Lully, by by, lullay.”’

composer in residence: Jeff Crull
verse text by Jeff Crull,
refrain and bridge text from the office hymn of Lauds
Soloist: Lisa vanHeyningen

Beautiful child, your smile so bright,
born in a manger on this holy night.
All eyes upon this wondrous sight,
filled with pure joy our hearts now take flight!

Humble and peaceful, like a dove,
cared for by guardian angels above.
Radiant with light and all things thereof,
will he become the true meaning of love?

O nata lux de lumine,
(O Light born of Light,)
Jesu redemptor saeculi.
(Jesus, redeemer of the world.)
Dignare clemens supplicum,
(With loving-kindness deign to receive,)
laudes praeces que sumere.

Wonderful Christmastime
words and music by Paul McCartney,
arranged by Ed Lojeski

The mood is right, the spirit’s up;
we’re here tonight, and that’s enough.
Simply having a wonderful Christmastime.
Simply having a wonderful Christmastime.

The party’s on, the feeling’s here
that only comes this time of year.
Simply having a wonderful Christmastime.
Simply having a wonderful Christmastime.

The choir of children sing their song.
They’ve practiced all year long.
Ding, dong, ding, dong, ding, dong, ding.

We’re simply having a wonderful Christmastime.
Simply having a wonderful Christmastime.

The word is out about the town
to lift a glass, oh, and don’t look down.
Simply having a wonderful Christmastime.

The choir of children sing their song.
They’ve practiced all year long.
Ding, dong, ding, dong, ding, dong, ding.

The mood is right, the spirit’s up;
we’re here tonight and that’s enough
Simply having a wonderful Christmastime.
Simply having a wonderful Christmastime.

The party’s on, the spirit’s up;
we’re here tonight and that’s enough.
Simply having a wonderful Christmastime.
Simply having a wonderful Christmastime.

Winter Wonderland
words by Dick Smith,
music by Felix Bernard,
arranged by Andy Beck

Sleigh bells ring, are you list’nin’?
In the lane, snow is glist’nin’.
A beautiful sight, we’re happy tonight,
walkin’ in a winter wonderland.

Gone away is the bluebird.
Here to stay is a new bird.
He sings a love song as we go along,
walkin’ in a winter wonderland.

In the meadow we can build a snowman,
then pretend that he is Parson Brown.
He’ll say, “Are you married?”
We’ll say, “No, man!”
But you can do the job when you’re in town!”

Later on, we’ll conspire,
as we dream by the fire,
to face unafraid the plans that we made,
walkin’ in a winter wonderland.

We’re gonna build a snowman,
pretend that he’s a clown.
We’re gonna build a snowman,
but don’t knock him down,
don’t knock him down, you better not,
you better not, don’t not knock him down!

When it snows ain’t it thrillin’,
tho’ your nose gets a chillin’?
We’ll frolic and play the Eskimo way,
walking in a winter wonderland.
__________

A Marshmallow World
(with “The Candy Man”)

arranged by Mark Hayes

A Marshmallow World
words and music by Carl Sigman,
music by Peter De Rose

It’s a marshmallow world in the winter
when the snow comes to cover the ground.
It’s time for play; it’s a whipped cream day.
I wait for it the whole year ‘round.

Those are marshmallow clouds
being friendly
in the arms of the evergreen trees.
And the sun is red like a pumpkin head;
it’s shining so your nose won’t freeze.

Oh, the world is your snowball;
see how it grows.
That’s how it goes whenever it snows.
The world is your snowball just for a song.
Get out and roll it along!

Oh, it’s a yum, yummy world
made for sweethearts.
Take a walk with your favorite girl.
It’s a sugar date; what if spring is late?
In winter, it’s a marshmallow world.

The Candy Man (from Willy Wonka and
the Chocolate Factory)

words and music by Leslie Bricusse
and Anthony Newley

Who can take a sunrise, sprinkle it with dew,
cover it in choc’late and a miracle or two?
The candy man. The candy man can.
The candy man can
‘cause he mixes it with love
and makes the world taste good.

Who can take a rainbow, wrap it in a sigh,
soak it in the sun and
make a strawb’ry lemon pie?
The candy man. The candy man can.
The candy man can
‘cause he mixes it with love
and makes the world taste good.

The candy man makes ev’rything he bakes
satisfying and delicious,
talk about your childhood wishes!
You can even eat the dishes!

Who can take tomorrow, dip it in a dream,
separate the sorrow and
collect up all the cream?
The candy man. The candy man can.
The candy man can
‘cause he mixes it with love
and makes the world taste good.
And the world tastes good cause
the candy man thinks it should.

Christmas Auld Lang Syne
arranged by Teena Chinn

Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!
words by Sammy Chan,
music by Jule Styne

Oh, the weather outside is frightful
but the fire is so delightful,
And since we’ve no place to go,
Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!

It doesn’t show signs of stopping
and I brought some corn for popping.
The lights are turned ‘way down low,
Let it snow! Let it snow!

Winter Wonderland
words by Dick Smith,
music by Felix Bernard

Sleigh bells ring, are you list’ning?
In the lane, snow is glistenin’,
A beautiful sight, we’re happy tonight.
Walkin’ in a winter wonderland!

Gone away is the bluebird,
here to stay is the new bird.
He sings a love song as we go along.
Walkin’ in a winter wonderland

Frosty, the Snowman
words and music by Steve Nelson and
Jack Rollins

Frosty, the Snowman
was a jolly happy soul.
With a corn cob pipe and a button nose
and two eyes made out of coal.

Frosty, the Snowman
is a fairytale they say.
He was made of snow, but the children know
how he came to life one day.

Jingle Bell Rock
words and music by Joe Beal and
Jim Boothe

Jingle bell, Jingle bell, Jingle bell rock.
Jingle bell swing and Jingle bells ring.
Snowin’ and blowin’ up bushels of fun.
Now the jingle hop has begun.

Jingle bell, Jingle bell, Jingle bell rock.
Jingle bells chime in Jingle bell time.
Dancin’ and prancin’ in Jingle Bell Square
in the frosty air.

Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town
words by Haven Gillespie,
music by J. Fred Coots

You better watch out, you better not cry.
Better not pout, I’m telling you why:
Santa Claus is comin’ to town.

He’s making a list and checking it twice.
Gonna find out who’s naughty or nice,
Santa Claus is comin’ to town.

Fruitcake?
words and music by Kevin T. Padworski
Choreographers:
Jennifer Rhodes, Janet Segur
Actors: Jo Draper, Linda Freeman,
Eric Gottschalk, Jennifer Rhodes, Anthony Troutt

One particular holiday
a long, long time ago,
Santa was getting ready
for his trip out through the snow.
This time of year was very busy
and often full of stress;
for Santa visits ev’ry child and
makes them feel their best!

But that particular holiday
had something weird in store.
Santa wasn’t feeling well,
he bolted for the door.
He woke up with a belly ache
that hit him very fast.
To the door so quick he ran;
he feared an arctic blast!

What could have made him feel so ill?
A virus? Or a sting?
But then it slowly dawned on him;
it could only be one thing!

Fruitcake! Holiday fruitcake!
Is it fruit? Is it cake?
Either way his belly ached!
Fruitcake! Holiday fruitcake!
Please never ever let me eat that stuff!

But as he reached the door
he heard a soft, familiar voice.
It certainly wasn’t Rudolph
and his sleigh all full of toys.
The doorbell rang and shouts he heard
out from the winter thaw.
It couldn’t be, but yes, it was!
His blessed old grandma!

He took a breath, put on a grin,
and flung the door open wide.
When what should she be carrying,
the gift just at her side?

Fruitcake! Holiday fruitcake!
Is it fruit? Is it cake?
Either way his belly ached!
Fruitcake! Holiday fruitcake!
Please never ever let me eat that stuff!
Please never ever, never ever let me eat that stuff!

Little Saint Nick
words and music by Brian Wilson and Mike Love,
arranged by Audrey Snyder
Soloist: Robin Ethridge

Oo, Merry Christmas Saint Nick.

Christmas comes this time each year.
Well, way up North where the air gets cold,
there’s a tale about Christmas
that you’ve all been told.
And a real famous cat all dressed up in red,
and he spends the whole year workin’
out on his sled.

It’s the Little Saint Nick, (Little Saint Nick).
It’s the Little Saint Nick (Little Saint Nick).

Just a little bobsled, we call it Old Saint Nick,
but she’ll walk a toboggan
with a four-speed stick.
She’s candy apple red with a ski for a wheel,
and when Santa hits the gas,
man, just watch her peel.

It’s the Little Saint Nick (Little Saint Nick).
It’s the Little Saint Nick (Little Saint Nick).

Run, run, reindeer. Run, run, reindeer.
Run, run, reindeer. Run, run reindeer.
He don’t miss no one.

And haulin’ through the snow
at a fright’nin’ speed
with a half a dozen deer with Rudy to lead.
He’s gotta wear his goggles
’cause the snow really flies,
and he’s cruisin’ ev’ry pad
with a little surprise.

It’s the Little Saint Nick (Little Saint Nick).
It’s the Little Saint Nick (Little Saint Nick).

Ah, Merry Christmas Saint Nick.
Christmas comes this time each year.
Ah, Merry Christmas Saint Nick.
__________

Jingle Bells
words and music by J. Pierpont,
arranged by Audrey Snyder

Jing a-jing, Jing a-jing.
Fal la la la la, Fa la la la la, hey!
Dashing through the snow
in a one-horse open sleigh,
o’er the fields we go,
laughing all the way.
Bells on bobtail ring,
they’re making spirits bright.
What fun it is to ride and sing
a sleighing song tonight.

Jingle bells, jingle bells,
jingle all the way.
Oh, what fun it is to ride
in a one-horse open sleigh, hey!
Jingle bells, jingle bells,
jingle all the way.
Oh, what fun it is to ride
in a one-horse open sleigh.

Jing a-jing, Jing a-jing.
Jingle, jingle, jingle bells.
A day or two ago,
I thought I’d take a ride,
and soon Miss Fannie Bright,
was seated by his side.
The horse was lean and lank,
misfortune seemed his lot.
He got into a drifted bank
and then we got upsot! Wup!

Hey! Jingle bells, jingle bells,
jingle all the way.
Oh, what fun it is to ride
in a one-horse open sleigh.
Jingle bells, jingle bells,
jingle all the way.
Oh what fun it is to ride
in a one-horse open sleigh.
Jing a jing!
